I designed this site and divided up my life into bite size compartments in order to serve up specific content for those who might be interested in it. Unfortunately nothing about my life is bite size.

In order to give you an idea of a normal week day I thought I would share the hours I spent doing certain activities each day. Here we go.

  • 11.5 hours – Work (includes driving to and from and getting ready to leave in the morning.
  • 1 hour – Dinner & Relaxation
  • 1.25 hours – Exercise (Usually the treadmill with some weights)
  • 2 hours – Misc (This is different every day but always booked. Church work, sermon, prep, web development, meeting with friends)
  • 7 hours – Sleep

If you did your math you will notice that I have only 1.25 hours a day that are unaccounted for. This is time spent with my wife or just unwinding.

And the truth is, the 2 hours a day I have allotted isn’t enough for all the things I have to do. Whatever doesn’t get done gets pushed onto Saturday or Sunday activities. I also have some certification classes I need to do but can’t seem to find time for those either.

I love the people I work with but I really wish I worked in Cleveland. It would give me almost 2 additional hours every weekday just from the commute to work with. I guess I’m just tired and trying to figure out how one does more stuff with less time.

It must be the season because last week I took the week of from work to spring clean my home and yesterday bought a treadmill to help me lose about 60 lbs of excess weight.

I guess it’s time for a change in the way I’ve been living. :)

I started strong for the first two years mostly writing about the happening of launching a church. During that time I started using a lot of social media for myself, the church, and my freelance web design stuff. It then began to be very difficult to figure out where certain content should go.

The main issue is I didn’t want to bother my various connections with stuff they certainly weren’t interested in. Some people started connecting with me because I’m a pastor and some because I am a web designer. People who read my stuff because it was about faith, church, and spirituality might tune out if a had a busy season of posts about WordPress, design issues, and snippets of code. The reverse is also very likely.

I’ve struggled with how to handle this over the past three years and because of it I’ve post more and more infrequently. Since probably no one would want to read every topic I might write about I opted to write nothing. So this site aims to remedy this, at least to a small degree.

This new site is broken down into four sections.

On this site I will post everything that pertains to faith, church, theology, and whatever random spiritual thoughts might arise. If that is all you are interested in, look no further.

tech.jameslaws.com

As the sub domain implies, this site is where I will share my thoughts on web design, WordPress, social media, as well as all things technology.

life.jameslaws.com

This site is for content of a more personal nature. Basically, here I will share things that don’t really fit into the other sites perfectly.

Finally – jameslaws.com

This is obviously the main site and it is the hub for all my material. If you are interested in everything I might write about this will have it. It aggregates all of my content from all sections.

Other than my Faith site the content is thin because I am just starting this process. But I hope they will fill up fast. I am also dividing content up by types. So what I will write will look different if it’s a post, link, video, image, gallery, chat transcript, etc..
